Teaching and Care Volunteering in Tanzania - from just £200

Programme facts and Information

Our projects offer the opportunity to help those whose lives have been affected by poverty and the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Tanzania. You will have the choice of working with orphans and vulnerable children at a specialist holistic support centre or working in a school where you will be able to assist in teaching and general day-to-day operations or doing a bit of everything.

The children who attend the holistic support centre are generally aged from 7 -14 years old.  They are mostly orphans from extremely poor and vulnerable backgrounds, whose families cannot afford to care for them properly.  Some children may be living with HIV/AIDS.  The centre provides extra support to the most vulnerable school children in the form of counselling, food provision, extra tuition, lifeskills, art and crafts, sports and fun group activities.  It supports primary school children and provides vital extra care where they otherwise may not be able to access it.

In the school placement, you'll work with primary school children and will help to educate and care for these children. Skills in areas such as teaching, art, counselling and sports are welcomed, but as long as you have the get-up-and-go to care for these youngsters, you could make an enormous difference to their lives.

What will I achieve

Most development experts agree that one of the most effective ways of tackling poverty in Africa is through education.  Education enables people to help themselves, their families and their communities.  In Tanzania

Your time and donation will help with the day to day running costs of our holistic support centre, providing children from the most disadvantaged communities in Tanzania with a vital support network and a real chance in life.

A bit more information

Our partner also runs a successful educational sponsorship programme, which provides private school places to nearly 100 children.  Unfortunately, some of these children’s home lives may be so challenging, that in order for their education to be successful they need an extra level of support which is provided by the centre.

You do not need teaching experience to volunteer with at the centre.  It is especially suitable for anyone who is fun loving, caring, enthusiastic or who simply wants to make a positive difference to a vulnerable child.  Your time at the centre really can change a child’s life, providing them with much needed attention they lack.

Our partner’s programmes work in collaboration with the local community, schools, parents and social welfare service, so they have a stake in them from the outset.
