Teaching Volunteering in India from just £300

Programme facts and Information

Teach children English, learn new skills and explore this beautiful part of India. By teaching here you will genuinely be giving these children the chance to succeed in life. In addition the volunteers will be offered the opportunity to learn about the Jaunpur culture, and will be extended an open invitation to take part in cultural events as well as the chance to learn Hindi.

While we prefer certified teachers, we will also consider those who have skills which will enhance our children's learning experience (i.e. Teaching English as a Second Language, Arst and Crafts, Music,
math, sports, etc.).

Essentially, we are looking for people with a passion and a desire to make a real difference in our children's lives. You'll spnd time teaching in classes, playing, talking and sharing your knowledge. Teaching here is much more than simply standing in from of the class, it's about learning together, supporting the kids and the teachers too.

Does this work make any difference?Education for this area is quite poor. In many of the villages schools offer education up to the primary level only. After this the children must travel to larger centers to attend upper school in a central government school. The quality of education offered by the government schools is extremely poor. Government teachers often show up for school just one or two days a week, and teach less than the required amount of hours.

At the same time, since the government’s focus is to reduce the number of drop outs, teachers have been instructed to pass children regardless of their grades. This leaves little incentive for teachers to actually “teach” the children. The result is that by the time children reach the tenth standard, they are ill prepared to pass the entrance exam for the 11th grade.

Ours is the first school of its kind in our area. We are offering our children an education on par with any of the best schools in India, but at a charity rate. Hence, our children will be able to compete with their better off counterparts for positions in excellent universities and be able to secure good careers. Basically, we are providing our children with an array of choices for improving their lives and their family's as well.
