Our work in Cambodia
After many years spent recovering from the impact of the USA secret wars of the 70's and the abuses of the Khmer Rouge, Cambodia is slowly becoming a market economy, this has brought many benefits to Cambodia but the gap between rich and poor continues to widen. We’re fighting for the rights of children and marginalised communites who aren’t benefiting from Cambodia rapid economic and social changes.
Que Rico works specifically in a community called Atvea, which is located on the outskirts of Siem Reap, gateway to the temples of Angkor.
Atvea is an area of outstanding beauty and a rare opportunity for us to be able to work with the community here. Where the three villages converge there stands a Pagoda which is home for a number of Monks.
Our projects centre around the Pagoda as the initial permission has been given by the Head Monk who is very impressed by the plans we have outlined.
Permission has also been obtained from the Chief of Commune and Chief of Village. This project will revolve around the needs of the community and at all times they will be consulted.
A committee will be formed to ensure we all have an understanding of the aims and objectives to achieve, initial progress and continuing growth and development. The majority of the committee will be Khmer relevant to each area of our project, Head Monk and the Chief of Commune and Chief of Village will also participate. Atvea is approximately 10 minutes from the centre of Siem Reap.
